Happy Tomb-sweeping Festival

Tomb-sweeping Festival, also known as Qingming Festival, Chinese Memorial Day, March Festival, Ancestors’ Day, etc., the festival is at the turn of mid-spring and late spring. Tomb-sweeping Festival originated from ancient ancestor beliefs and spring rituals. It has two connotations of nature and humanity. It is not only a natural solar term, but also a traditional festival. Tomb-sweeping to worship the ancestors and outings and outings are the two major etiquette themes of the Ching Ming Festival. These two traditional etiquette themes have been passed down in China since ancient times and continue to this day.
Tomb-sweeping Festival is an ancient festival of the Chinese nation. It is not only a solemn festival for sweeping tombs and worshipping ancestors, but also a joyous festival for people to get close to nature, go out and enjoy the fun of spring. Douzhiyi (or the sun’s yellow meridian reaches 15°) is the Qingming solar term, and the festival time is around April 5th in the Gregorian calendar. During this season, the vitality is vigorous, the Yin Qi is declining, everything “spits out the old and accepts the new”, and the earth presents the image of spring and scenery. It is a good time to take a youthful outing in the suburbs and visit the tomb ceremony. The Qingming ancestor worship festival is very long. There are two sayings that it is 8 days before the 10th day and the 10th day after the 10th day. These nearly 20 days belong to the Qingming ancestor worship festival.
Tomb-sweeping Festival is a major traditional spring festival. Sweeping tombs and paying homage to ancestors is a fine tradition of the Chinese nation since ancient times. It not only promotes filial piety and awakens the common memory of the family, but also promotes the cohesion and identity of family members and even the nation. Tomb-sweeping Festival integrates natural solar terms with humanities and customs. It is a unity of the right time and place, and it fully embodies the pursuit of the harmonious unity of “heaven, earth, and people” by the ancestors of the Chinese nation, paying attention to adapting to the time and the earth and following the laws of nature.

Qingming Festival, Spring Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, and Mid-Autumn Festival are also known as the four major traditional festivals in China. In addition to China, there are other countries and regions in the world that also celebrate the Ching Ming Festival, such as Vietnam, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and so on. On May 20, 2006, the Qingming Festival declared by the Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China was approved by the State Council to be included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage lists.
